Learn a word a day

The Dept of English has initiated a novel Programme “Learn a word a Day’. Its aim is to inculcate the habit of learning Vocabulary of English among the students. Simple words are selected and are written on the board. We write the spelling of the word, its Parts of speech and usage on the White Board installed at the entrance of the college. We motivate the students to use the word in the college and at home. It develops the vocabulary of the students and at least some of them learn to use these words when needed. It develops communication skills among them.

News paper reading

Every day we forward the soft copy of the news paper “The Hindu” in the students Whats-up groups.Through Newspaper reading one can enhancevocabulary, reading skills, knowledge and general awareness. It strengthens the reading, writing skills and Provides entertainment as well. It is Best source of General knowledge. Reading the news paper in English is a great way to build up your language skills. Reading the news is great practice for formal English such as business or politics. But it is also a fantastic way to help the students improve their informal English. Reading the news also helps the students understand the culture of their countries. The features like ‘This Day That Age’ help the students to understand the History. The Book reviews on Sunday will create interest among the students and develop their reading habits.
